My son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at 24 months. I created this blog to bring meaning to the often-confusing label. Sometimes I have answers. Other times, just more questions.
That was awesome!!!!! I loved when he said 'surfing' so matter of factly... like why wouldn't you know that! And 'I Dont Know'??!!!! That was awesome!!!!
Hi, I am a mother of a wonderful 11 yr old son diagnosed at the age of 4 with high functioning autism. I wanted to offer some encouragement...I've been down that road where the insurance company denied any further therapy (i.e. speech, ot). The appeals went nowhere fast but the silver lining and hopefully something that will help. Local colleges in this area offer extra credit for volunteer work (psychology students, special education students,occupational therapy students). We were blessed to find students in the occupational therapy program who had worked in ABA programs before with children with autism. We were not able to afford classic 30-40 hour aba therapy, but I obtained manuals such as Teach me Language, and ABA manuals and we did what we could which sometimes was just 10 hours a week. It helped and gave him the building blocks for language to where he is now integrated into a normal classroom with an aid only and making honor roll every semester. You fight who you can to get services, and then you get creative. I truly hope this helps and feel free to contact me and I will help in any way possible...college students jumped at the chance for the work, and the ones who did not get credit for volunteer work were paid minimal amounts (all I could afford) but it all came together somehow in the end.
