I assume, e.g., that cerebral palsy is not in the DSM.Nyxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01274150882524269249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839052051073416028.post-68996088562309290162009-12-23T04:20:52.087-08:002009-12-23T04:20:52.087-08:00Emily, as I understand it, the real question is in...Emily, as I understand it, the real question is insurance. Will drug X be covered in connection with the treatment of disorder Y. Currently, the DSM-IV is the "bible" for insurance coverage. Adding the litany of addictions would open up those "disorders" to drug coverage.Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07764022300747217993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839052051073416028.post-66158310037493917932009-12-21T13:49:52.075-08:002009-12-21T13:49:52.075-08:00I just hope for better diagnostic criteria for aut...I just hope for better diagnostic criteria for autism in the new addition. All this confusion about 2 from this category and 1 form this category, etc is too confusing - and then if you don't fit the "mold" you are given a dx of PDD-NOS (or ADHD in our case).
I would like to see a list of a few things that HAVE to be present for a dx of ASD (both Greesnpan and the Eides have done this so why can't the DSM?) and then use the severe, moderate, mild that is currently being considered. I also hope to see SPD in the new addition. I think there is way too much confusion, way too much blurring of lines and way too many "dump" dx currently. I say get the Eides and Greenspan to work on the DSM! What a mess.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14934033119198457032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839052051073416028.post-29848277690835207382009-12-21T10:16:37.923-08:002009-12-21T10:16:37.923-08:00This is great news! I hope we'll move to a more open-source DSM in the future.

Do you think seeing the politicking and backroom compromises behind the DSM will make clinicians use it differently? More like a guideline and less like a bible?E.M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07258276540400935661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839052051073416028.post-436291896344371392009-12-20T10:55:37.859-08:002009-12-20T10:55:37.859-08:00What a fascinating show. There's so much human-ness in this story. The arrogance, the arm-chair quarterbacking, the politicking, the worrying over pharmaceutical companies and insurance coverage and labeling and .... What weird things we humans do. How predictable we are.Nyxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01274150882524269249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839052051073416028.post-56791971879973152732009-12-19T01:55:29.962-08:002009-12-19T01:55:29.962-08:00Hear, hear.Hear, hear.father of fourhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13545620094928864276noreply@blogger.com
